How would you like luxuriously smooth and silky skin in time for Summer? You would? Then let’s get your skin summer-ready with my Mojito sugar scrub recipe!
Anyone who’s seen my DIY Bar cart will know that I’m a huge fan of cocktails. I’m not fussy – in fact I never met a cocktail I didn’t like – but my favourite has to be a mojito. There’s something about that combination of rum, mint and lime that really ticks all the boxes for me. And if you’ve never tried one then you must, immediately! I don’t care if it’s 9am. OK, maybe I do. Wait till lunchtime at least.
Anyway, today’s DIY means you can enjoy that glorious mojito goodness, without the calories or the inevitable hangover. In fact this will actually be good for your body!
As summer approaches, suddenly the limbs that have been hibernating in my cosy winter clothes start to venture out a little. Although I have a hate-hate relationship with fake tan, I still use the stuff because my legs completely refuse to budge an inch from their natural, luminous white shade.
Now I’ve had my fair share of fake tan disasters, orange feet, streaks, the works. But over the years I’ve learnt that exfoliation is the key. It helps you to get an even, natural looking and long-lasting tan. Even if your not a fake tan fan, this scrub is ideal for giving your skin a much-needed boost after Winter!
I’ve tried a lot of different exfoliating products and they are generally around £15, so I thought I could save myself a lot of money if I actually tried making my own. Check out my all natural, simple and money-saving sugar scrub recipe!
DIY mojito sugar scrub recipe
You will need:
- 3/4 cup white granulated sugar
- 6 drops mint essential oil
- 8 drops lime essential oil
- 1/4 cup of Coconut oil
- Jar – I found a small salsa jar worked perfectly for the amount
- Free printable labels
How to make it
1# Melt the coconut oil in a pan using a low heat until it becomes a clear liquid.
2# Remove from the heat and allow to cool but not solidify. Once cooled add the remaining ingredients and stir thoroughly and pour into a jar.
3# Pop in the freezer for an hour to set.
4# Print out the free labels here and glue them to your jar. Alternatively you can stick the two circular labels together, make a hole and tie the label to the jar with string.
5# Drink a real Mojito while you wait (optional, but recommended if you’re over the legal drinking age of course).
Directions for use
I recommend using the scrub in the shower otherwise it can get messy. To use rub into wet skin until the sugar dissolves, then rinse off with water to reveal silky smooth feeling skin. The sugar will gently remove dead skin cells and the coconut oil will moisturise!
P.S Bare in mind that the scrub contains oil, so may make the shower a little slippery. Safety before beauty my lovelies! Oh and I know it’s tempting, but don’t eat it : )
I’m definitely going to be making more of my own beauty products from now on! It didn’t take too long to make at all and now I have the ingredients.
It would also make a really lovely gift, download the super fancy labels I’ve made to make it look super professional!
