Create a stunning christmas centrepiece from your old magazines!
This week I’m going to be talking tables. Well, Christmas tables that is.
I’ll be showing you some simple and affordable ways to create a beautiful centrepiece for your festive feast.
I saw this magazine tree idea on the Martha Stewart website and I had to try it. I love craft projects that you can be inspired by and then just do them, no need to leave the house for supplies. Let’s do it!
Magazine tree
You will need:
- Old magazines (thick with glued spines, not stapled)
- Spray paint
- Spray glue
- Glitter
- Star or bauble for the top
- Cocktail sticks
- Sellotape
1# Bend the spine of the magazine until it becomes pliable.
2# Remove the front and back covers, then fold the top right corner to meet the spine.
3# Fold the same page a second time towards the spine and make sure the fold is crisp
4# You should end up with a triangle of the page which falls below the below the base of the magazine. Fold that inwards so it tucks neatly underneath.
5# Repeat for every page. It is a bit time-consuming (takes about 30 mins per magazine) but not too bad if you stick on some rubbish reality tv or listen to an audiobook.
6# Once you’re finished, fan out all the pages so that they fall evenly and you can’t see where the cover once was. You may need to glue the front and back pages together if there seems to be a big gap, but I left mine overnight and it seemed to even out perfectly by itself.
You could totally leave them like this if you’re going for an urban, minimalist vibe. Otherwise give it a quick coat of spray paint in the colour of your choice and leave an hour to dry.
Finishing touches
7# I also sprayed them with a coat of spray adhesive and sprinkled glitter on top ,because you need some sparkle at Christmas in my opinion.
8# I topped my tree with some origami stars, which you can learn how to make here. I attached them by sellotaping a Cocktail stick to the back and then sticking it in to the pages. You could also glue on a tree decoration or bauble as a topper.
Tip# I’ve also seen these made with vintage books and they look really great and would be perfect for smaller tables.
Voila! Your magazine tree is done and all ready for the big day.
I’ll be sharing another simple, affordable Christmas centrepiece idea on Friday, so be sure to come back and visit then.
