Spring has officially sprung! The Winter frost is finally starting to thaw, the evenings are getting lighter and it feels a little less like I have the starring role in 30 days of night (if anyone actually remembers that film). Anyhoo, it’s the perfect time to give your home a few little updates and pack away the winter cosiness for another year. Here’s a list of my favourite inexpensive spring home update ideas.
Spring home decor on a budget
1# Flowers
Aside from Easter eggs, I think one of the best things about Spring is tulips. They’re one of my favourite flowers, such an incredible variety of colours. Spring flowers are so affordable too! You can pick up a bunch of daffodils for a £1 and tulips for around £2.50 in my local supermarket.
2# Declutter
They don’t call it Spring cleaning for nothing! Sort through your house and get rid of all the things you truthfully don’t need. You could even pop them on Ebay or a local selling site and make a bob or two. I’m just about to start reading ‘The life changing magic of tidying up’ so I’m envisaging that I will barely have any possessions left in a month or two (I know – I’m totally late to the party on this).
3# Printable wall art
One of the reason I love printable wall art so much, is that you can instantly update your room with the click of a button. I have a few frames dotted about that I use for displaying graphic art and it’s such a quick and easy way to refresh your decor. In fact I’ve designed a few that you might like, they’re free to download current and you can do that right here.
I’ve created the prints using some gorgeous navy and blush watercolour graphics from super talented Tori at Fox & Hazel. If you like to create your own prints or you’re interested in art and creativity – definitely take a look at her website.
4# Fragrance
I’m a firm believer that your home should smell as good as it looks. For me that involves an elaborate collection of candles, diffusers and plug-ins. I think fresh cotton and floral scents are perfect for Spring. Right now I’m loving the Aldi candles that are basically Jo Malone dupes, at just £3.99 you can save yourself a cool £44!
5# Throws
Swap out your heavy-duty winter throws for lightweight one’s on your sofa and bed. You could opt for a brighter colour or an interesting pattern. I am a floaty scarf hoarder, so if I’m not sure whether a colour will work I try draping a scarf over the furniture. And yes, I pretty much have a scarf in every colour you can think of.
6# Cushions
Ok, I’ll admit I have a slight cushion obsession! But I just love the ability of a cushion to completely change the dynamic of a room. It’s such a great way to try out colours and patterns without really committing to them or spending a great deal. Pastel colours and florals are great for Spring.
7# Switch your furniture around
Give your room a revamp without spending a single penny! Could your room benefit from a new layout? Is there a piece of furniture that might work better in another room? It’s time to mix things up.
8# Make a table centrepiece
Add some interest to your kitchen table or mantle, with a Spring themed centrepiece. There are so many simple ideas on Pinterest if you need a little inspiration. I found a few colourful and spring-like accessories from around my house, added some flowers and used a tray to corral them together. Voila – instant Spring centrepiece.
9# New bedding
New bedding is a great way to transform your bedroom for spring on a budget. If you’ve seen my recent homeware haul, then you’ll know that I’ve just bought some light denim blue chambray bedding, which I’m loving. If you love to keep it simple with white bed linen, fresh white sheets with a bold colour throw and cushions looks great too.
10# Give tired furniture coat of paint
My latest obsession is chalk paint, mainly because it doesn’t require any priming or sanding and I am super impatient. Just slap it on and then you can adapt the finish to suit your style. Sand for a shabby chic look, or wax for a glossy finish.
