2018 Interiors wish list – my top 5!

2018 Interiors – what will we be coveting this year, huh? 2017 will certainly be remembered for botanical prints, velvet furniture, house plants galore and the continued reign of grey EVERYTHING! But what will 2018 bring us?

I thought I’d share what’s on my 2018 interiors wish list (just the top 5 things actually, because let’s face it – you’d be here all day otherwise).

This year I have lots of re-decorating projects I’m hoping to get stuck into. Top priority are the conservatory, master bedroom and garden. My son’s bedroom is about 95% done, I’ve just got to choose artwork and find a reasonably priced armchair, then I’ll finally be able to share the reveal here on the blog. I’m so happy with how it turned out, it was worth the looooong wait saving up for all the furniture we wanted.

If you follow me on Instagram you’ll have seen a couple of sneak peeks already! Like this one …

What’s on my 2018 Interiors wish list?

1# A statement light

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – good lighting is everything! And you can rest assured that the trend for glorious pendant lighting will most certainly be hanging around (see what I did there) for 2018.

An interesting light fixture can really set the tone for the whole room and that’s exactly what I’m after for my next decorating project – our master bedroom.  The look I’m going for  – wait for it – boho California beach house glamour, much to the delight of my long suffering husband. Who knows what this will translate to in real life, but in my head it looks amazing!

Any hoo, there are two lights that have caught my eye for this particular project.

I’m just in love with this pendant light – it’s so pretty! Made from goose feathers, its like a beautiful fluffy cloud of dreams.Inter-Design-2018

Margot Beaded Chandelier, Sweetpea & Willow

I’m not sure that the ceilings are high enough for this beauty, but what a showstopper, eh? I’ve even seen DIY tutorials for these on Pinterest, but I can’t even begin to imagine how many painstaking hours it would take to create. I love a craft project, as you’ll see from this blog, but for once I think I’d rather part with the cash!

2# Bar Stools

Bar stools are back in a big way, but they’ve had a super classy make over! Whilst I love the Eames style ones that are making a splash all over Instagram, I’m particularly enjoying the incredibly luxe velvet ones.

How about these glorious gold numbers that I spied from Cuckooland ? Just dreamy!

I can just imagine sipping a few late night gin and tonics whilst sat on these!

Sadly my budget will not stretch to £329 per chair – but a girl can dream, right? I have grand plans to create a coffee bar area in our conservatory (currently a playroom drowning in toys). It will still need to house said toys, but I’m hoping it can become more of a family room.

3# Dining Table

The table in our dining room was only supposed to be a temporary measure until we could afford a nicer one, but somehow several years later we still seem to be hanging on to our Homebase special! I purchased a couple of nicer chairs for the head of the table, but sadly the cats have used them as a scratching posts and now they look scruffy. This means I’m a bit limited in terms of dining chairs, they need to be fabric free so that they don’t befall the same tragic cat attacks.

I’ve always preferred the look of fabric dining chairs, that is until I discovered the Instagram account of Laura Butler Madden. Her huge wooden dining table surrounded by wishbone chairs showed me that simple can be beautiful (seriously, if you haven’t already check out her home on instagram it’s an absolute delight).

I really love the idea of a nordic style dining table, with a bench. You can easily drape a faux fur rug over for a luxury feel, there are some great affordable options out there.

For example, this Hever table from Noa and Nani looks fab – but at £199 is a fairly budget friendly. Having ordered my son’s bed from this company, I can confirm that quality is pretty good despite the affordable prices. Happy days!

4# Wallpaper

Until last year, I must confess I’d never hung wallpaper. In fact, my husband and I actively avoided it – sagely agreeing that it was far beyond our combined DIY skills.

You know what though, when we finally took the plunge last year and wallpapered my sons room, it wasn’t quite as bad as I was expecting! We did a lot of research before hand and watched some YouTube tutorials first. Now I have the wallpaper bug and I’m on the hunt for something special to liven up our incredibly neutral living room.

I’ve ordered a ton of samples from Graham and Brown, which seems to be excellent quality without the sky high expense of Cole and Son (oh, but their wallpapers are so incredible, sigh).

5# Plants

There are so many reasons to have house plants. I mean sure, they look good and they are most definitely having a moment right now. But despite simply being on trend for 2018 interiors, did you know they can actually improve your wellbeing and your sleep quality? Not to mention being a natural air purifier!

There’s just one slight problem – I can’t seem to keep them alive! Even the one’s that are supposedly impossible to kill, not for me – I still seem to manage it. It’s quite a talent, let me tell you.

This year I’m determined, I am going to keep at least one real house plant alive. If you have any green fingered tips, please let me know in the comments below. But for the meantime, I will be happy to fake it until I make it as a bona fide green-fingered goddess. I love Homesense for realistic and low-cost faux plants!

Hi Caroline, great post, I love your blog, it’s so focused, inspiring and stylish. As to Ultra Violet, it’s a beautiful colour but not that easy to use in interior design in my opinion. A touch of it in a velvet upholstered footstool, or a glass vase or bowl perhaps?

Thanks so much Suzy! Yes I agree, accessories are the safest way to go when it comes experimenting with colour.

I have the Vita lamp and, to be honest, a good simple paper lamp looks just as stylish. I feel I bought it because I saw it on Pinterest not because I wanted it if you know what I mean. Regarding the Pantone colour of the year, I guess it’s ok but only in small doses. I hope you have better luck with plants this year!

Yes, very small doses I think. I know what you mean about the Vita lamp, it is everywhere now!

Good to hear from you 😉 Your son’s bedroom is looking great, can’t wait for the final reveal 😉 I have to admit that I’m the same with plants, can’t seem to keep them alive, although I’ve been doing pretty good this year, considering my history 😉
